TANDI’S BATH

It is a building constructed by cut stones and is located at Atilla Street in Kafesli quarter of Nicosia. In the early 1900’s, Gosti Giryagu Tandi had skilled Greek workers to construct this building at the western part of Cukur Bahce (Hollow Garden). Its plan has characteristics of classic Ottoman baths. This bath, which is known as the first family bath, was used for only women after 1953. During the political unrest between the two communities, the stones and joints of undressing section were used for constructing military positions. Thus, it lost its function as a bath.
